FFP2, NR (BFE ≥ 95%) protective masks, also known as anti-smog or anti-dust masks, have a special filter against microbial contamination and are used to filter the finest particles in the inhaled air. There are FFP2 masks on the market that filter at least 95% of particles, up to 0.6 μm, floating in the air, which guarantees high efficiency against microorganisms, bacteria and viruses, as well as for stopping smoke, airborne dust and aerosol particles. In times of the SARS-Covid19 pandemic, it is also recommended to use FFP2 masks, as they provide optimal (though not complete) protection for doctors.
The European standard EN 149 divides filtering respirators into the following classes: FFP1, FFP2, FFP3, depending on the guaranteed degree of protection. The higher the type of FFP protection, the tighter the mask is and the better it protects our respiratory system. There are also disposable and reusable masks.
When choosing a protective mask, it is worth paying attention to other markings:
